Gwendolyn Ann (Britton) Benus died at the age of 102 years, 4 months, and 8 days.

Gwendolyn Ann Benus, age 102, of Garnett, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas.

She was born April 2, 1906, in Caldwell, England, the daughter of Anthony Cyril and Isabella (Coats) Britton.

She moved with her parents to America in 1909.

On October 29, 1931, she married William Benus at Garnett, Kansas.

They raised two of their nieces, Carol Jane (Bell) Mersman and JoAnn (Bell) Lickteig.

Gwen was a registered nurse and worked many years at the Lawrence Hospital.

She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and Altar Society, Richmond, S.

She was an excellent pie maker and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Benus, on March 11, 1992; her parents, Anthony and Isabella Britton; a brother, Cyril Britton; and eight sisters, Eva G. Brownrigg, Ethel Warren, Edith Macklin, Doris Badger, Margery Britton, Jane Britton, Margueritta Lopp, and Greta Mae Heatherly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be August 13, 2008 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Garnett Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Golden Heights Living Center.
