Arley Edward Brandvold was born on August 2, 1915 in Erskine, the son of Avle and Gurine (Haugen) Brandvold. When Arley was a child, he moved with his family to Greenbush where he attended school. Arley served in the U.S. Army from February 14, 1943 to November 19, 1945.

On September 12, 1943, Arley married Bernice Hetland at Greenbush. The couple lived in Greenbush until 1990 when they moved to Thief River Falls. Arley served as a postal carrier in Greenbush for 29 years. They lived in Thief River Falls during the summer months and spent winters in Arizona.

On February 14, 1992, Arley married Minnie Bertelson Herman. The couple had resided in Arizona since their marriage.

Arley served in the Army Corp of Engineers and was at the invasion of Normandy in World War II. He attended an annual gathering of his fellow servicemen to keep in contact with them. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Arizona; a son, Gary (Karyl) of Sun City West, Ariz.; three daughters, Sandra (James) Cook of Shoreview, Susan (Bruce) Brorson of Mentor, and Carol (Lynn) Hammer of Thief River Falls; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Helgeson of Roseau.

Arley was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bernice; three brothers, Peder, Helmer, and Carl; and three sisters, Agnes, Mabel, and Ida.
