Statesboro - Fred M. Akins, 79, died Wednesday at Bulloch Memorial Hospital here after a long illness.
The Bulloch County native was a retired carpenter and a member of Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church near Statesboro.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruby D. Akins of Statesboro; two sons, Paul S. and Donald Wayne Akins, both of Statesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Cannon, Mrs. Wilma Mallard and Mrs. Irene Edenfield, all of Statesboro; four brothers, Doy, Datus, Inman and Ernest Akins, all of Statesboro; and five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral 3 p.m. today at Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church, burial in the church cemetery.
Smith-Tillman Mortuary of Statesboro in charge of services.
