Services Held for Mrs. Christensen

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. C.J. Christensen last Friday afternoon, first from the home of her son, Fred Christensen, at 1:30 p.m. then at the Diamond Lake Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Harald Ibsen and the Rev. Helig of the Baptist Church officiated. Both pastors spoke words of comfort to the bereaved children and each paid a fitting tribute to the memory of the life of the late Mrs. Christensen. The beautiful flowers bore mute testimony of the many friends who attended the last rites. The body was interred by the side of that of her husband in the adjoining cemetery.

Sophia Anderson was born in Denmark, on April 30th, 1874 and died following a heart attack at Tyler, on March 11, 1941, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 11 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a humble and faithful member of the Diamond Lutheran Church until her death.

She came to America at the age of 20 years and went directly to Exira, Iowa. Here she was married on August 15, 1896 to C.J. Christensen. Ten children were born to this union; six sons and four daughter, one daughter died in infancy, and Mary, (Mrs. Peter Meyer) preceded her mother in death in 1926.

Mrs. Christensen resided at Exira Iowa, until 1914, when she and her husband came to Minnesota and then purchased the Eiler Thomsen farm in Diamond Lake township. Her husband died on December 12 1935. She continued to make her home with her sons, Fred and Einar, until five years ago when she moved to Lake Benton, where she resided in an apartment with Mrs. Strong, until her death. Mrs. Christensen, although not strong, was in good health until last November, when she became quite ill and was taken to the Tyler hospital where she was confined until the first of the year. After a few weeks of convalescing at the home of her son, Fred, and family, she was able to return to her rooms at Lake Benton. She was not in the best of health at this time but able to be alone most of the time until the Monday preceding her death when she went to Tyler and here she passed away following a heart attack the next day. She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving mother, grandmother, her sons, Andrew of Erhard, Minn., Charlie and Niels of Exira, Iowa, Fred Albert and Einar and her daughters, carrie, (Mrs. Chris Meyer), all of this community, and Martha (Mrs. K. Jensen-Hansen) who now resides in Denmark, and 28 grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. All of the children with the exception of Mrs. K. Jensen Hansen, wee here to attend the funeral services.

Other relatives and friends from away who attend the services were peter Meyer and Son, Stanley, of Sioux Falls, So. Dak., Mrs. Lena Markussen, Audubon, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie Miller, Kimallton, Iowa, and Chris Riegaard of Exira, Iowa these three were cousins of the Christensen children, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Coppock and son, Ashton, and his wife, Mr. and
Friends and neighbors all extend sincere sympathy to those who mourn the loss of this loved one.
