Bernice Jimmy Thrift

Mr. Bernice "Jimmy" Thrift, 82, of Waycross died Friday afternoon (Oct. 3, 2008) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Ware County to the late Carey and Beulah Rogers Thrift and lived here for most of his life. Mr. Thrift was a Veteran of both the United States Army and Air Force. He retired from the United States Postal Service and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae James Thrift; two brothers, Elbert Thrift and Clyde Thrift; two sisters, Myrtis Walker and Rachel Brown; a step-son, Harlan James; a grandson, Mark James.

He is survived by a sister, Ruby Lee, Waycross, two step-daughters, Carol Pittman and her husband Nelson, Waycross, Shirley King and her husband Charles, Blackshear, four grandsons, Dean Pittman and his wife Becky, Waycross, Chris James, Scott James and Jimmy James, all of North Carolina; a great-grandson, Zachary Pittman and a great-granddaughter, Nicky Pittman; special nephews, Carol Walker and Glen Walker both of Waycross and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 PM at Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
