Born on Oct. 5, 1922 in Hillsboro, Texas, she was the daughter of Jack and Annie Smith Overton. Mrs. Akins was a housewife, a member of the Beckville United Methodist Church, and a thirty-eight year resident of Beckville, moving there from Waco. She was also a member of the Beckville Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by a son, Thomas L. Akins, who died in 1974.
Mrs. Akins is survived by her husband, Mr. Tom Akins of Beckville; one son, Dennis Burnett of Nappa, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Wayne Burnett Elliott of Beckville; one sister, Donna Smith of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Amy and Megan Burnett of Nappa, Tracie Elliott Wise, Toni Elliott Lindsay, and Terry Wayne Elliott, all of Beckville; six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were William J. Harris, Lane Harris, Don Harris, David Daniels, Kenneth Pierce, and Frank Allums.
