Mary Simmons Barger
Conover, N.C. - Mary Simmons Barger, 80, of the Brian Center Viewmont, formerly of Conover, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the Brian Center.
Born July 16, 1923, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Ollie Mae Sigmon Simmons.
She retired as a receptionist at Hair Masters of Conover and had previously been employed at Southern Glove Co. She was a member of Unity Lutheran Church in Hickory, where she was a former member of the choir, church council and women of the ELCA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Curtis Barger, sisters, Lucille S. Reed, Edith S. Sigmon, Laura S. Huffman and Stella S. Marlowe, and a brother, Clyde Simmons.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Hazel B. Murray and Larry D. Cline of Hickory and Peggy B. Davis and husband, Steve, of Conover; a son and daughter-in-law, James R. Barger and wife, Libby, of Conover; grandchildren, Justin Barger, Lauren Barger, Jessica Leigh Davis and Jeremy Davis; three sisters, Pauline S. Teague of Newton, Susie S. Hennessee of Bostic and Ruby "Peg" Morrison of Lincolnton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Unity Lutheran Church in Hickory.
The Rev. Dr. Robert E. Allen will officiate and burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight, Feb. 26, at Unity Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Davis, Gerald Killian Jr., Rob Killian, Justin Barger, Lewis Sigmon and Hugh Bolick.
