Mrs. Adams, 91, of Zumbro Falls, died Friday (Sept. 26, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester,
Verneal Alice Meerkins was born Nov. 20, 1916, in rural Lake City, Mount Pleasant Township, Wabasha County. On May 14, 1941, she married Roderick F. Adams at the Bremen Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in rural Zumbro Falls for many years. Mrs. Adams was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa and belonged to the "You Been Stuck" Card Club, the Birthday Club, and the VFW Auxiliary in Zumbro Falls. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing cards.
Survivors include four sons, Roderick Jr. (Rita) of Wabasha, John (Donna) of Mazeppa, and Jim (Bev) and Gene "Bucky," both of Zumbro Falls; a daughter, Cindy (Curt) Johnson of Mazeppa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Martin (Bonnie) Meerkins of Mazeppa. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 22, 1988; an infant son; two brothers, Willard and Virgil; and a sister, Ruby Franz.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City, and an hour before the service Tuesday St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa.
