A funeral mass for Jay K. Mesplay, 49, was held at St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Visitation was at Kehl's Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel. Mr. Mesplay died June 29 in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada.

Born April 18, 1937 in Nevada, Mo., he moved to Alaska in 1970. Before coming to Alaska, he graduated in 1961 from the University of Santa Clara, Calif., worked for the University of California-Davis Department of Architects and Engineers, and the California Department of Water Resources. He worked as a consulting mechanical engineer for Stefano Engineering Associates for 10 years and then founded Inlet Consulting Engineers which he owned for six years. He was active in St. Benedict's Catholic Church and served on the building committee. He was an avid pilot and loved to fly.

He leaves his wife, Patricia, of Anchorage; his sons, James and Andrew, both of Anchorage; his daughter, Theresa Ruby; and one granddaughter. Memorials may be directed to the St. Columba Summer School, 6401 San Pablo Avenue, Oakland, Calif., 94608 or to the University of Santa Clara Alumni Scholarship Program, California.
