Augustus was the son of William and Sarah Jane (West) Albea. His sibling was Thomas Albea. His half siblings were Joseph W, Romulus A, Mary Jane, Martha Eller, Charles Zachariah, James F and William Henry Albea.

He married Catherine Elizabeth Eckhardt, daughter of Christian and Elizabeth Eckhardt, on 19 February 1887 in Hancock County, Indiana. Their children were Nina E and Emory Harold Albea.
