William H Blevins enlisted in Company F, 11th Ohio Cavalry. He had previously served in Company H, 2nd Virginia State Line Militia (CSA). He was captured and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio where he enlisted to get out of the POW Camp. He was one of more than 100 CSA POW's to enlist in the 11th Ohio Cavalry for service on the Overland Trail in the Dakota Territory in June 1863 against Sioux and Cheyenne.
A small note: William Blevins served in the same regiment as "Devil Anse" Hatfield of the Hatfield and McCoy Feud.
