AGNES NADINE AGAN, daughter of Thomas and Elvie Heafley Wood, was born December 21, 1924, in Brownfield, Missouri, and departed this life September 9, 2008, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years.
Early in life Agnes made a profession of faith in Christ and was baptized. She was an active and faithful member of Ozark Bible Church. She helped in many capacities, such as working in VBS, Social Committee, and the Good Will Committee. She treasured the fellowship with her church family.
On April 6, 1947, Agnes was united in marriage with Lyman Agan and of this union are three sons, all surviving. At the time of her death, they had celebrated sixty-one blissful years of marriage, creating lifelong memories.
While living in Lebanon, Agnes worked at Rice Stix from 1941 until 1943. World War II was raging at that time and Agnes decided to move to Kansas City and go to work in an air plane plant as an A-1 electrician. Her petite size allowed her to maneuver in the tight spots to complete wiring that other employees could not access. She was employed there until the war ended.
In 1946, Agnes returned to Rice Stix, in Lebanon, which became Reliance and then H.D. Lee. She worked there until she became pregnant with their first son, Tom in 1947. He was born January 30, 1948. Agnes returned to work in 1949, until becoming pregnant with their second son, Ronald. He was born on June 26, 1950.
She took several years to be a doting mother to her boys and became the graceful definition of homemaker. She didn't consider her time spent at home as a "chore, "but rather years to enjoy creating the "homey" atmosphere that her family came to love and cherish.
Agnes returned to work for a final time in 1960, once the boys were a little older, at H.D. Lee, until her retirement in 1980, after over seventeen years of dedicated service. She took pride in her job and appreciated her co-workers, many of whom still remain her very dear friends.
It was only after retiring that she had time to develop hobbies to do in her "spare time." She would spend countless hours with her puzzle books, as she referred to them, keeping her mind active by completing crossword puzzles. She was also a volunteer with the American Heart Association in Lebanon.
Agnes is survived by her husband, Lyman; three sons, Tom Agan, Ronald Agan and his wife Karen, and John Pulley and his wife Teresa; two brothers, Lynn Wood and his wife Brenda, and Donald Wood and his wife Connie, all of Lebanon; two sisters, Delores Chapman and her husband Dale of Peculiar, MO, and Louise Muro of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren, Rachelle Jennings and her husband Chris, Tara Johnson and her husband Brandon, Susan Phillips and her husband Todd, Kevin Agan and his wife Kimberly, Brook Sevcik and her husband Anthony, Shana Ballard and her husband Chris, and Matthew Pulley; ten great-grandchildren, Janessa, Shawna, Cori, Emma, Lucy, Caleb, Cara, Rylen, Sage and Mattox; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Thomas Wood, and one sister, Lois Agan.
A loving wife, nurturing mother, fun-loving grandmother, cherished sister, and loyal friend, with an unwavering faith, and the great ability to bestow all of life's most important lessons to her loved ones, the legacy she leaves behind will be treasured for generations to come.
