ELENA TRUJILLO "HELEN" CHANEZ, 91, a resident of Hurley entered eternal rest on September 4, 2008 at her residence.
The prayer vigil and rosary will begin at 7pm on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Baca's Funeral Chapels led by Deacon David Castañon. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Infant Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Virgilio Flores officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow at the Hurley Cemetery.
Elena was born on April 24, 1917 in Arrey to Santiago and Maria (Bencomo) Trujillo. She was a communicant of Infant Jesus Catholic Church who prayed her rosary everyday and carried great faith in her "santitos" and her "virgencita".
She was a very talented seamstress as well as a great cook. Her enjoyment was cooking holiday meals for all of her family, especially making her delicious tortillas and tamales. Her other favorite pastimes included doing crossword puzzles and adored spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Elena is survived by her sons, Alfonso Chanez, Arcadio Chanez, Reynaldo Chanez and wife Olivia, Cornelio Chanez all of Hurley, Genaro Chanez and wife Penny of Chicago, Illinois, and Gabriel Chanez and wife Diana of Las Cruces; daughter, Ida Chanez of Hurley; brothers, Jose Truhillo and wife Jerri of Denton, TX and Federico Trujillo and wife Hortencia of San Jose, CA; sisters, Virginia Vega of Deming and Elsie Dominguez of Las Cruces. Also surviving her are 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cristobal and her brothers and sisters.Pallbearers will be Cornelio Chanez, Jr., Daniel Chanez, Eric Chanez, Dennis Chanez, Sharon Chanez and James Chanez.
