Corporal Brown was severely wounded at Petersburg on June 18th 1864. Brown would be transported to DeCamp US General Hospital on David's Island New York and arrive there on June 26th before being transported and arriving in Annapolis, MD in December 1864. Corporal Brown would end up dying at Division No. 1 U.S.A. General Hospital on March 19th 1865 due to Typhoid Fever.
