Merelda Nelson Smith, 84, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 1, 2008 at her daughter's home in Draper, Utah.
Merelda was born April 24, 1924 to Conrad Leonard Nelson and Elizabeth Thaxton Nelson in Murray, Utah. She married Arnold Fitzgerald Smith on December 18, 1946 in Murray, Utah. Arnold preceded her in death on May 23, 1984. Merelda was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings and was a church custodian for several years. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, sitting on the front porch, and spending time with her family. She loved flowers, her friends and family, going to D.U.P. and the Draper Senior Center. Her loving and generous spirit will be greatly missed.
She is survived by children, Karen J. Smith, Kenneth A. Smith (Kathy), Marvin J. Smith (Ramona), Lee N. Smith, Anita G. Smith, Annette S. Runia (Mark); nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Anita N. Preuss.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Draper 2nd Ward Chapel at 1617 East 12700 South There will be a viewing held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary at 8090 South State Street, and on Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the Church.
Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens.
