Thomas Hillery COOK was born 23 July 1844, in Lewis County, Va., now West Virginia. His early boyhood days were spent in Lewis and Jackson Counties with his parents. At the beginning of the rebellion he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served until the close of the war. He was united in marriage January 15, 1867, to Minervia E. FLESHER, a daughter of the late William B. FLESHER. To this union were born ten children, four boys and six girls, all of whom survive him, except one boy, who died in infancy.
In the year 1875 he united with the Christian Church and remained a faithful member until his death, which occurred after a short illness of pneumonia which lasted only five days, April 11, 1911, at his home in Silverton, surrounded by loving relatives and friends, age 66 years, 8 months and 26 days. The funeral was held in the Big Sand Creek Baptist Church. (Mountaineer, 28 April 1911)
