Mrs. Harry Abernathy, of Whitewater, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 11, at the home of her son, Oliver Williams in Cape Girardeau. She was 88 years old. Mrs. Abernathy, the former Miss Helen Huffman, was born August 15, 1891 near Whitewater, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander "Bud" Huffman.
On December 10, 1908 she was married to Monroe Williams, who died March 4, 1940.
She then married Harry Abernathy on February 1, 1944.
She was a member of Star Homemakers Club.
She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church at Crump.
Surviving are her husband; four sons, Oliver Williams of Cape Girardeau, MO; Arthur Williams of Whitewater, MO; Audray Williams of Jackson, MO; and Weldon Williams of Jackson, MO; three stepsons, Raymond, Lentice and Gene Abernathy of Whitewater, MO; two step-daughters, Mrs. Olline Brown of Jackson, MO; and Mrs. Loudean Jones of Fruitland, MO; one half-sister, Mrs. Etta Lear of Cape Girardeau, MO; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
One son, three brothers, one sister, one step-son, and one half-brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Thursday at Bethlehem Church. Burial was in Barks Chapel Cemetery at Crump. McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson handled arrangements.
