PLEASANT GARDEN, NC — Irvin T. Lewis, 92, passed away at 6:24 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Graveside services were held at 2 pm on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Guilford Memorial Park with full military honors.

Irvin was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, fifth of seven sons of P. R. and Margie Taylor Lewis.

He proudly served his country in the:
• United States Army
• 82nd Airborne Division
• 325th Glider Infantry Regiment
• Company A
• First Battalion

during World War II and was awarded six Bronze Stars, among many other honors.

He married Frances Isabel Phillips on July 19, 1947, and they shared 61 years together.

Irvin retired from Piedmont Ford after 15 years of service.

He was a member of the Dr. Siske Sunday School Class at the Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church where he was also a member.

He also was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2087 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents and all six of his brothers (and five of their spouses):

Also surviving is a very special sister-in-law, Mrs. Jo Lewis of Greensboro, NC (wife of Vernon).
