Walter Hoyt, an aged and well known resident of this town, died at Bridgeville, on Sunday morning last. Mr. Hoyt was 78 years of age on the day before his death. He was born in Bridgeville and had resided there all his life. He was honored by his fellow citizens with many positions of trust; having been a Justice of the Peace for over thirty years, and on the bench of the County and Supreme Courts as a Justice of Sessions for several terms. He was also Supervisor of the town of Thompson in 1859 and '60. For over half a century he was a leading member of the Methodist denomination at Bridgeville, and his funeral services were held at the church in that place on Tuesday afternoon. Ten children survive him, viz: Milton A. Hoyt, William F. Hoyt, Mrs. Anna Minteer and Mrs. Edward Durland, of Chicago, Ills., Mrs. Peter Millspaugh, of Livingston Manor, this county, Mrs. Thomas Denniston, of Glen Wild, Nelson Hoyt, of Herkimer Co., N.Y., Leverett Hoyt of Middletown, Benjamin A. Hoyt, of Bridgevile, and Elnathan Hoyt, residing in the State of Nebraska.
