He was born in Selma, Virginia on January 22, 1932 a son the late Harry L. Anderson and Judith Atkins Anderson of Clifton Forge.
He was a graduate of Clifton Forge High School, Ferrum College and the University of Virginia. He had a long and successful career in the United States Navy completing Flight Training School at NAS Pensacola, Florida, He became a member of ZP-3 Airship Anti-submarine Squadron at Lakehurst, N.J. From 1961 until 1976 he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves at NAS Norfolk, Va..flying the S2D with a primary mission of Anti-submarine warfare. He retired from the Navy in 1976 with a rank of Lieutenant Commander. He became active in banking in the Richmond area where he worked for Associate Finance Corp., Southern Bank and Trust, Bank of Virginia and First Virginia Bank. He later became active in real estate sales in the Richmond area. From 1977 he became an entrepreneur by opening Midlothian Auto Parts, Inc..He was a member of the Naval Airship Association. He is a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Clifton Forge and the Men's bible class of the Church. He was a member of the Clifton Forge High School Alumni Association. Was active as a Ruritan as a member of Midlothian Ruritan Club and the Sharon Ruritan Club. He was a former president of the Cliftondale Country Club, and was an avid Golfer.
In addition to his mother Judith Atkins Anderson of Clifton Forge, he is survived by his wife Shirley Marler Anderson of Clifton Forge; 2 daughters & son-in-laws, Judith A. & Daniel J. Davis of New London, CT. and Ellen Wyatt & David Bondurant of Powhatan, Va.; a son and daughter in-law, Richard Earl & Diane Anderson of Roanoke; a brother and sister-in-law B. Montaque & Betty Anderson of Russell, Ky;; 6 grandchildren, Jewel Scott Bondurant, Jessica Anne Bondurant, Schyler McKenzie Davis, Carrie Lynn Anderson, Kristin J. Anderson Keip, and Caitie Elizabeth Anderson; 1 great grandchild Morgan Keip; 2 nieces Cynthia Stambaugh and Anne Montaque Anderson; 1 great niece Anne Baker. He is also survived by several special cousins.
