...My brother...
Gene was diagnosed in Dec for cancer in his lungs and in his spine. He had five or six chemo treatments but it didn't help the cancer in his spine. This cancer spread so fast...He passed away peacefully in Chico Enloe Hospital...I still can't believe it.

Eugene "Gene" Ross Henderson, 77, of Orland, passed away August 23, 2008 with family at his side after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.

Gene was born December 27, 1930 in Princeton, Calif. to Mildred and Elmer Henderson. As a child he lived in Princeton, Willows, Orland, Chico, and Paradise. He graduated from Chico High School.
Gene served in the Air Force from 1950-1954 stationed in Germany. It was there that he met the love of his life, Rosie. They were married in Kassel, Germany on July 9, 1954, returning to Paradise later that year with their oldest daughter, Monika. Two more daughters were born to Gene and Rosie. They raised their family in Paradise. Always dreaming of the farm life, in 1978, they bought a small 20 acre ranch in Orland. They enjoyed all aspects of country living and his first horse, Red. He rode on many poker rides with his daughter, Shirley.

A car enthusiast and mechanic all his life, he worked for PG&E for 28 years before his retirement.

Gene loved being outdoors. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, and playing his guitar. He was a self taught guitarist and many memories were born from that. He was always working on something, tinkering in the garage. He could build, invent and repair anything, a true master of just about everything.

Gene is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosie; his grandson, Thomas Zacharias, both in 2005; his daughter, Monika Henderson in 1987; and his parents.

He is survived by daughters, Shirley and Chuck Bartok of Orland, Ilona and Bob Hetherwick of Biggs; grandsons, Jason Wolff of Lebanon, Oregon, Brian Wammack of Orland, Jonathan Bartok of Weatherford, Texas, Shane Hetherwick of Biggs; and granddaughters, Sheila Zacharias-Sawyer of Orland, Raschelle Wammack of Shasta Lake City, Melissa Hetherwick of Chico, Kelly and Alicia Hetherwick of Biggs; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ken and Rose Henderson of Paradise; sisters, Maxine Frankis of Walnut Creek, Verna and Dallas Langlois of Visalia, Lorraine Lender of Turlock; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services, under the direction of Paradise Chapel of the Pines, will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment in Paradise Cemetery will take place at a later date.

(left out of obituary was step mother Jeanne Henderson, who preceded him in death. And step-brother Richard Lovin of Antiock,Ca & step-sister Roberta "Pie" Azevedo of Wilton Ca.)
