Eugene was called "Lefty" and was the middle son of Frank C. and Jewell Gladys (Gay) Cook, both deceased.
He was also preceded in death by older brother, Edgar P. Cook of Florida, who passed away in 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy (Judd) Cook; and their daughter, Pamela (Dr. J. Pat) Spicer; grandchildren, Jennifer (Zane) A. Baird, Brian S. Austin, Susannah B. Spicer and grandson-in-law, Adam Spicer; four great-grandchildren, Daniel Baird, Jordan Baird, Madeline Baird and Austin Baird; younger brother, Wallace A. Cook; and nephew, Tony Cook.
Gene joined the Army Air Corps in 1941, following the Pearl Harbor attack. His group was sent to the panama Canal Zone to guard that facility. As a sergeant, he worked as an airplane mechanic.
After the war, he and his wife settled in Newnan, Georgia where they lived for 49 years.
Gene worked mainly as a salesman, retiring with American General Insurance Company in 1985.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served the Church as a branch president, stake high councilman, ward missionary, and temple ordinace worker at the Atlanta, Georgia Temple. Gene was an avid fan of baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. He loved fishing, a good game of golf with buddies and the occasional vacation road trip.
