Born in Menteroda, Germany. Son of Johann Christoph & Susanne Magdalene Herold Ackermann. His first wife was Marie Louise Pflug, married 2/14/1844 in Germany & his second wife was Christine Prinz, married on 9/6/1879. With his 1st wife they had a baby girl born & died in 1844 & 6 sons: Johann "John" Carl Friederick, Johann "John" Henry, Johann "John" Louis, Johann "John" Albert, Johann Andreas "John Andrew" Jr, & Johann "John" Robert. With his 2nd wife they had a daughter, Nathalie Louise "Dolly". Brother of Susanna Catharina Ackermann Schulmeier Krause, Johanna Christiana Wilhelmine Ackermann Doelle-Kramer, Martha Elisabeth Friederike Ackermann Trescher, Friedrich Christian aka Wilhelm Frederick "Fritz", Carl "Charles' Friedrich Wilhelm, Susanne Christina Catherina Ackermann Laux & Henriette Christiane Wilhelmine Ackermann Rippstein.
