Vernon S. "Butch" Arentz, 70, of Littlestown, Pa., died late Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at home after an eight year battle with cancer. Born October 17, 1939, in Littlestown, he was the son of the late Ivan and Beatrice Sterner Arentz. He was the husband of Jean M. Baker Arentz, his wife of 51 years.

He was a lifelong farmer and owned Arentz Hay & Grain. He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Littlestown and served on the consistory. He was a lifelong member of the Alpha fire company.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Jay Arentz and wife Susan, Richard Arentz, Craig Arentz and wife Julie, and Rodney Arentz and wife Tammy; grandchildren Megan Arentz Turnbaugh and husband Rocky, and Kathleen, Kacie, Lindsay, Carrie, Kyle, Morgan and Dalton Arentz; brothers Clair, Donald, Ivan and Dale Arentz; and sisters Ethel Abbott, Mary Jane Small, Beatrice Wallen, Freda Bortner and Debbie Grove. He was predeceased by a brother, Leroy Arentz; and sisters Susan Gregg and Erma Topper.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Christ United Church of Christ, 131 Christ Church Road, Littlestown. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Revs. Garry Shaeffer and Nelson Seible officiating. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Christ UCC, 131 Christ Church Road, Littlestown, PA 17340; or VNA Hospice, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331. Arrangements are by Little's Funeral Home in Littlestown.
