Doris was born in Worcester, Mass., to William and Lucy MacIntosh. In 1941, she married Harrison Brown and they moved to Vallejo, Calif. During World War II, she was secretary to the Navy Construction Battalion Unit. The United Methodist church was always a vital part of her life. She was an active member of churches in Worcester, Vallejo, Falls Church, Arab, and Huntsville, especially the Searchers Sunday school class and Circle 3.
Her interests included traveling, square dancing, the Mental Health Council, the Women's Club, poll officiating, and the Republican Women's groups.
Her beloved family includes her husband of 67 years, Harrison Brown; daughter, Judith Tulloch and husband Michael of Alcester, S.D.; son, Dr. Douglas Brown and wife Susan of Nashville; grandchildren, Harrison Brown and Blaine Brown of Nashville, Michael Tulloch Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Scott Tulloch and wife Anjana of Coral Springs, Fla., and Johnathan Tulloch of Madison, S.D.
