Bessie Annabelle Hill Lockart, 96, of Lindsborg died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008.
She was born April 25, 1912 in Colony, the daughter of Harry and Maud (Makemson) Hill. She was graduated from Colony High School and attended Pittsburg State University where she received her teaching degree. She taught eight grade levels in one-room schoolhouses at Prairie View and Star Schools in Anderson County and kindergarten and first grade in Colony. After moving to Mission she substitute-taught in Mission and Overland Park and was a sales representative for World Book, Incorporated. She continued to substitute teach when she moved to Lindsborg in 1974 and taught at many area schools.
She was actively involved in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, Bible study groups and served in all aspects of church life. She was a graduate of Stephens Ministry and Menninger programs. She was also involved in Trinity United Methodist Women's group and was honored with a service pin.
Survivors include her husband, Willard D. "Bill" Lockart; a daughter, Maleta Forsberg; granddaughters, Jeannie Moncrief, Lori Swift and Lesly Forsberg; grandsons-in-law, Bob Moncrief, Mark Swift, and Dr. Wayne Steckelberg; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A sister, Marie Smith, three brothers, John Hill, C.H. "Bud" Hill and Eugene Hill, and a son-in-law, Wayne Forsberg, died earlier.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lindsborg. Private burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Roxbury.
