Roy Lee Stockman is my brother. He died 3 years before I was born. Our parents were simple, hard-working people who did what they had to to earn a living for their family. They would travel from Florida to Michigan to pick fruit, depending on the season. In Feb., 1965, they were in Florida picking oranges. Roy was doing what most little boys do, he was playing. The man who was driving the truck to pick up the fruit didn't see him and backed over him. He was killed instantly.

Even though I never knew him, I have always thought he and I looked more alike than any other family members. I wish we had been able to grow up together! In all his pictures, he has that adorable smile and mischevious eyes. I don't know how my mother, Mary Stockman, survived such a terrible loss. She was the strongest woman I have ever known. On Aug. 29 2008, she went to be with my brother Roy, my sister Diane, and my father Lewis.
