John was the son of Anders Gustaf Kallman, b 23 Feb 1817 in Liman, Leksand, Dalarna, Sweden, d 18 Jul 1887 in Rattvik, Kopparberg, Orebon, Sweden and Katarina Fridsberg, b 10 Jan 1812, Aspeboda, Dalarna, Sweden, d 8 May 1897, Rattvik, Kopparberg, Orebon, Sweden. Gravesites unknown.

Anders Johan (John) Kallman left Sweden for America on September 29, 1868. In 1870 he ws living in Ludlow Township, Champaign, Illinois working as a farm laborer for Levi Shank. His citizenship was finalized on October 21, 1876 in Champaign County.

On September 28, 1871, he married Hannah Johnson, a Swedish immigrant who had come to America in 1868 and lived in Paxton, Illinois. Their children were: Lucy, Hannah, Oscar, Charles, Arthur and Ida. They owned a 243-acre farm in Ludlow Township at the time of John's death on April 2, 1891. Four of their children were still under the age of 16 at that time.

Hannah moved into Rantoul with her youngest daughter, Ida, in 1901. She died May 25, 1918 at the home of her daughter and husband, Ida and Bert Keal.
