Professional Baseball Player. She was a pitcher in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball league for six seasons. The league was created in 1943 because many of the male major league baseball players were serving in the military during World War II. Collins joined the All-American League in 1944, pitching for the Minneapolis Millerettes, a team which later became the Fort Wayne Daisies. Her career record was 117-76 and her earned run average was 1.83. In 1987, she helped to create an association of former players from the All-American league, later becoming the association's treasurer and editor of its newsletter. Collins was instrumental in helping to develop an exhibition on women in baseball for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. The exhibition, now enlarged and permanent, inspired the 1992 movie "A League of Their Own" in which actress Geena Davis played the role of "Dottie".
