Luva E. Clefisch, 88, of Garnavillo, IA, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the Edgewood Convelecent Home in Edgewood IA following a lingering illness.

She was born the daughter of John and Martha (Hansel) Kulper on January 23, 1920 in Colesburg, IA.

Luva graduated from the Elkport, IA High School and later married Merlin Hansel.

She later married Lavern "Red" Clefisch on October 8, 1945 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Elkport.

Luva had a full time job raising 12 children. Taking care of her kids, gardening and reading were the things she enjoyed most. Luva enjoyed the simple things in life which also kept her at home where she enjoyed being.

Survivors include her husband LaVern (Red) Clefisch of Garnavillo, 12 children: Gary Hansel of Garnavillo, Veronica (Fred) Jenkins of Garber, Royce (Janan) Hansel of Elkader, Lee (Deb) Clefisch of Story City, Vern Clefisch of Garnavillo, Sandy (Bill) Raudbaugh of Colorado Springs of Colorado, Susan (Steve) Whitesell of Grinnell, Martha (Terry) McDanel of West Des Moines, Herbert Clefisch of Garwin, Steve Clefisch of Des Moines, Ruth (Kent) Gaudain of West Burlington, and Donna (Dan) Schoulte of Farmersburg; one sister Lois Backes of Guttenberg, two brothers Lyle (Liz) Kulper and Lowell (Betty) Kulper both of Colesburg.
