Mrs. Samantha Belle "Mattie" Ivy Carden, 87, of Route One, Golden, MS died Monday, June 11, 1973 at the Northeast Hospital in Booneville. She was the widow of Frank Carden, and a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Services were Wednesday, June 13, 1973 at the Old Bethel Methodist Church. Burial was in the New Bethel Cemetery.
She was survived by one sister, Mrs. Daisy Ivy Martin of Steele, MO.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Nine brothers and two sisters.

She raised Chester Ivy, her brother, George Ivy's son after his mother, Myrtie Gregory Ivy, died. He was about 2 years old, when John Frank and Mattie Ivy Carden took him to raise.
