Hilton was born in Lakeview, Texas, to E. D. (Ed) Cox and Sarah Edna Bolen, Cox. He was retired from the City of Graham, Texas as a street sweeper. He was a full time fisherman following his retirement.
Survivors at time of death included his wife, Judy of Graham; two sons, James David and wife Nichole, and Billy Don of Graham; two daughters, Barbara Nance, and Ann Crutchfield and husband, Jerry of Graham; one brother, Bobby of Graham; and one sister Cleatus Rife of Graham.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby and Frank; one daughter, Karen; and one granddaughter Sandy.
