Fledia J. Acuff, 77, of Willard, passed away Sunday afternoon at 3:36 p.m., following a short illness. Fledia was born in Montana, Kansas, and grew up in the Everton, Mo. area, graduating from Everton High School in 1947. She was a longtime resident of the Ash Grove and Walnut Grove area, and has resided in Willard since 1993. She was a homemaker and was a sales clerk with Wilson's Store in Ash Grove for 30 years.

She was a member of the Center Baptist Church, where she was very active and assisted on the food committee for many years. She was a member of the Ash Grove Red Hat club and with her husband, enjoyed the Hitchhiker Campers Club. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary of Everton, and enjoyed the fellowship and fun with the Tuesday night Card Club.

Fledia Linderman and Clarence Young were united in marriage on June 3, 1947, and to this union one daughter was born. They were privileged to share over 33 years together. Clarence preceded her in death on March 9, 1981.

Fledia and Frank Acuff were united in marriage on November 10, 1984, and they were blessed with 23 years together. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Doris Linderman.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; her daughter and husband, Peggy and James Chipman of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two grandsons, Wayne and wife, Stephanie Chipman of Columbia, Mo., and Mike and wife, Katie Chipman of Ft. Scott, Kan.; three great-grandchildren, Collin, Karlie and Walker Chipman; two step-daughters, Sue and husband, Dusty Wade of Sapulpa, Okla., and Stella and husband, Steve Huffman of Sand Springs, Okla.; five step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Freda Stokes of Springfield, Mo., and Shirley and husband, Andy Anderson of Tulsa, Okla.; several nieces and nephews; and her loving companion, "Mattie", her Schnauzer dog.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, in Center Baptist Church, east of Ash Grove, with Rev. Mitch Fisher officiating and grandsons, Wayne and Mike Chipman, giving the eulogies. Interment will follow in Ash Grove Cemetery under the care and direction of Wilson-Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, in the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
