Thomas Hiter Crouch was the son of John and Sarah (Epperson) Crouch. He was a pioneer minister of the following churches; Limestone, Philadelphia, Harmony, Antioch, Whitesburg, Johnson City, Sinking Creek, Fordtown, New Salem, Muddy Creek, Clear Fork, Double Springs, and Boone's Creek.

He married Sophia Bowers, in Boone's Creek on March 20, 1861. Sophia was a daughter of Lawrence A. Bowers. There were ten children from this marriage;
