Mr. Steffenhagen, 89, a longtime Frontenac area farmer, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2008) at Lake City Medical Center.
Donald Clarence Steffenhagen was born July 3, 1919, in Lake City. He attended Lake City schools before he began farming with his father in Frontenac. He took over the farming operation in 1950 and continued until his retirement in 1981, at which time he moved to New Frontenac.
On March 13, 1943, he married Donna Mae Dankers at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac.
Mr. Steffenhagen was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. At the church he was the Sunday school superintendent and a teacher for 21 years, served on the church council for many years and was involved in the Fellowship Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his lawn, reading and listening to music.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Gary (Rita) of Eau Claire, Wis., James (Denise) of Frontenac and Dean of Ellenton, Fla.; two daughters, Diane (Tom) Olesky of Glendale, Ariz., and Gloria (Paul) Otto of Frontenac; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Emery; and a granddaughter, Angela Otto.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and an hour before the service Monday at the church in Frontenac.
Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
