My mother Margaret was born and raised in Oakland California to parents Carl and Botilda Oberg. She was of Scandinavian decent (Danish, Swedish). She also had a younger brother named Robert. Mom was quite a beauty and was once voted prettiest girl at her local high school. I have often thought that she looked like a beautiful movie star from the forties. She went on to meet her future husband, my dad, William Yarbrough, and they married in the Summer of 1946. Margaret and William or "Bill" as he was called eventually had three children. Margaret was very talented. She could sing and play the piano beautifully, and she performed on the radio as a younger girl. She was even approached by different big bands and asked to be their lead singer, but instead she wanted to marry and raise a family. She kept up with her music though, and we grew up hearing mom's beautiful voice while she played the piano often. Margaret was also very creative and could do just about any kind of crafts. She was a fabulous cook and everyone looked especially forward to her wonderful holiday meals. Mom also had a green thumb and she loved to garden. Even the inside of our house was filled with beautiful orchids, African violets, and wonderful plants. As her younger child got older, Margaret went to work in market research and eventually started her own successful company which lasted almost thirty years until she retired due to poor health. Mom loved to travel and went to many places including Europe and China. She was also an avid reader and movie buff. Mom lost her husband, my dad Bill in 1982. She was a deeply loved mother as well as a beloved grandma too. Her death saddened her family more then words could say. My beautiful mama, we miss her terribly...
