Church Hill - Edward Paul Alvis, 67 of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 2, 2007, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Morristown, TN, he had lived in Church Hill for most of his life. He was retired from AFG Glass Corporation following 26 years of service, where he worked as a fork truck operator. He was a member of the union, Local #456 and attended Riners Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Alvis and Grace Ward; sister, Ruby Jean Overbey; granddaughter, Kelly Hipshire.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Littleton Alvis of the home; daughters, Deborah Kay Hipshire and husband Keith of Rogersville and Katie Hunley and husband Gary of Kingsport; step-daughter, Norma Jean Fawbush and husband James of Rogersville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Bessie Delozier and husband Louis of Luttrel, TN; brother, Robert Alvis and wife Wanda of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 4-6 PM on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill.

A funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Gilliam and Rev. Lawrence Wolfe officiating. Music will be provided by Heavenly Reflections and the Riners Trio.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be James Fawbush, Mitchell Littleton, Gary Hunley, Keith Hipshire, Randy Seymore and Will Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Givens, Carl Johnson, Gary McMurray, Sherman Littleton and Bill Overbey. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 noon to go in procession to the cemetery.
