Ellen M. Deal, 87, of rural Marshall, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Mar-Saline Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Rev. Steven C. Burbee will officiate. Pianist Julie Lewis will play "One Day at A Time" and "Where He Leads, I Will Follow."

Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Art Walker, Danny Lyon, David Brown and Vern Laughlin. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Saline Animal League.

Born December 19, 1910, in Salisbury, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Clara L. Statenbacher Wachter. On November 7, 1948 she married George Milton Deal, who preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1987.

She lived in Saline County most of her life. She was a 1931 graduate of Salisbury High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she had been active serving the jurisdiction and attending conferences. In 1973, she organized Meals on Wheels in Marshall and served as chairperson until 1983.

Survivors include a niece, Ellen Louise Rose-Auyong.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters.
