Emma B. (Berg) Thomas, died peacefully on Saturday afternoon, December 9, 2006 in the company of her family at the Life Care Center of Stoneham, she was 83. Born on June 2, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Fredrik E. Berg & Anna T. (Hoijman) Berg. Emma was born in Burlington and was a graduate of Burlington High School Class of 1941. Emma, a high school basketball star enjoyed playing for the Burlington High team. After high school she attended secretarial school and later met and married her sweetheart Theodore E. Thomas. The couple was married on June 19, 1959 in the Old South Church in Reading and later that year moved to Stoneham and raised their two children Ted & Linnea. The couple was married for forty-seven years until Emma's passing.
Emma loved working with ceramics, stained glass, making silver jewelry, and was an avid gardener. She was a former member of both the Stoneham and Melrose Arts and Crafts Societies and was active with the Lady Lions Club of Melrose and will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous heart by all who knew her.
Emma was the cherished wife of Theodore E. Thomas of Stoneham, loving mother of Theodore E. Thomas III of Stoneham and Linnea Valentyn and her husband John of Medford. She was the adoring grandmother of Alyssa Lynn & Jillian Marie Valentyn of Medford. Loving sister of LCDR Frederick E. Berg USAF (Ret.) and his late wife Virginia, of Norwich, VT and Ruth Whitney and her late husband, Alan of Reading.
Visitation will be held at the Weir ~ MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Tuesday, Dec. 12th. from 9AM-11AM followed by a funeral service will starting at 11AM. Rev. Paul C. Mc Pheeters of Forestdale Community Church will be officiating. Interment in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden at a later date.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Emma's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association / Mass Chapter, 330 Congress St. Suite 5 / 5th. Floor, Boston, MA 02210 & The Stoneham Boys & Girls Club, 15 Dale Ct., Stoneham, MA 02180 or the charity of one's choice.
