The following information was provided by Gary B. Sanders, a trusted and knowledgeable researcher of the clan:

Moses Sanders, Jr., was born about 1771 in Anson County, North Carolina(the part that is now Montgomery County). Moses married Elizabeth "Betsy" Harris June 12,1789 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, where his parents was living at that time. Moses is mentioned in the will of his father, the Reverend Moses Sanders, Sr., in 1817. The will of Moses, Jr., was probated in January 1847 in Franklin County, Georgia.

There is no evidence that the Reverend Moses Sanders(1742-1817) or his son, Moses Sanders, Jr., were ever known as Moses Martin Sanders. All historical documents that refer to the Reverend Moses Sanders or his son have no middle name or initial. Elden Hurst, who wrote the most reliable and well-researched study of the family of the Reverend Moses Sanders and his children, did not believe that either man had a middle name. There was a Moses Martin Sanders (1803-1878) but he was the grandson of the senior Moses, not his son. In the records Moses Martin Sanders compiled in researching his family, he did not give a middle name for his grandfather or his uncle, and he surely would have done so if his middle name had been the same as theirs.

Below is the will of Moses Sanders, Jr., According to Elden Hurst, Moses Sanders, Jr., signed his will as Moses, Sr., in order to distinguish himself from his nephew Moses Sanders(son of Aaron Sanders, brother of Moses Jr.)

Will and Estate Records of Moses Sanders, proved 1846.
