Sigi escaped from Vienna in July 1938 after the Nazi takeover. He fled from Vienna to Salzburg, to Munich, then Stuttgart and Freiburg and was smuggled over barbed wire into Switzerland. His entry in to the US was sponsored by a maternal 3rd cousin, Sam Mischel. Sigi put himself through university, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering. He became a citizen in 1943. He wrote books on quality control in engineering, and directed teams working on commercial, space, missile, radar programs. He wed Marianne Heinsfurter in 1942 and was loving father of 4 children and grandfather of 7.
