Services for William A. Gummer, 58, Indianapolis, were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, with Rev Dillon Laffin officiating at Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. He died in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Sunday morning, April 20, after heart surgery. A Memphis Tennessee native, he resided 25 years east of Bridgeport. He attended Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Kentucky. An Air Traffic Controller for 32 years, he retired in 1974 after working most of those years at Indianapolis International Airport [actually Weir Cook Municipal Airport as it was named from 1944 to 1976 which is also during when Mr. Gummer was employed there]. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was a volunteer probation officer for Marion County. He was affiliated with American Legion Wayne Post 64, and the Moose Lodge, Travers, Florida. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; six sons, William Gummer, Plainfield, Donald and Jack Gummer, New York City, Richard and Mark Gummer, Indianapolis, and Steve Gummer, Pensacola, Florida; six grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Gene McKinney, Plainfield. His son, Donald, is married to actress Meryl Streep, who recently won an academy award for best supporting actress for her performance in the movie, "Kramer vs. Kramer."
