GRACE DURIG
76, of Beavercreek, formerly of Springfield, died Saturday evening at Hospice of Dayton. She was born October 29, 1923, in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Richard and Mattie (Merritt) Latimer. She graduated from Madriver Township High School, Enon, Ohio, in 1942 and in March 1944, enlisted in the WAVES (USNR). After boot camp she was sent to Yeoman School at the State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls, Iowa and was assigned to the Naval Training Center, Farragut, Idaho, in the Personnel Department. Grace was then transferred to the Naval Supply Depot, Oakland, California. Grace was discharged from the United States Navy in February 1946, and established a home in Springfield. Grace attended the Springfield College of Commerce and Industry for three years under the G.I. Bill. After graduation, she was employed by the City of Springfield and later worked for 20 years at Wright-
Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. In 1965, Grace attended Kenmore Night School, Springfield, for family history research. Her interest in genealogy spanned three decades. She married Richard F. Durig on May 2, 1981. She and Richard made their home in Beavercreek, Ohio. In 1982, Grace and Richard started researching her family ancestors and have spent 11 years collecting genealogical data. They traveled extensively and published three books in the process. Grace was a member of the Neal Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Springfield. She was also a member of the Polk Box Button Club, the Buckeye State and National Button Societies, a member of the Beavercreek Senior Citizens, Beavercreek and Clark County Historical Societies, and the Green County Antique and Collectors Club. Grace is survived by her husband, Richard F. Durig of Beavercreek, son Theodore Kaiser of Springfield; sister, Mary Mae Gordon of Springfield and two grandchildren, Sarah and Christopher Kaiser, both of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norbert Kaiser; son Douglas Kaiser; two sisters and two brothers. A public gathering of family and friends will be held in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, SPRINGFIELD, Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. David Glauner of The Church of Christ in Christian Union, Marion, Ohio, officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420-1885.
