Descendants contend that Asa Bynum was a minister of the Gospel. However, census records consistently show that his occupation was that of a farmer. He may be confused with his uncle, the Reverend Asa Bynum (1806–1886) FAG#7791258 who was indeed a minister and co-founder of the Oak Branch Methodist Church, of which this cemetery was a part.
