William and his brother Phillip were very close and sometime in the mid 1890's they moved to Jackson Twp. Sandusky County Ohio where both of them purchased homes within 150 yards of each other at Winters Station on SR 590. William worked at the carpenter trade for many years, he built a number of homes in the area and also helped build forms to pour the Dam at Fremont. William also bought and cut timber in the area for many years. Will or Bill as he was called quite often was a great outdoorsman.
William possessed a very bad temper when he was treated wrongfully but he was a kind and considerate to his family and friends. He and his wife Amelia were very staunch church goers and read their Bibles diligently.
HEART ATTACK IS CAUSE OF DEATH GIBSONBURG, Dec. 4. William D. Long, 77, well known farmer and timber buyer, died at his home one and. one-half miles northeast of Burgoon, Wednesday at 9 a. m., shortly after suffering a heart attack. He was a native of Crawford county. Surviving are the wdfe, Mrs Amelia Long, who Is seriously 111 at the home; two sons, Cecil Long of Burgoon, and Archie Long of Green Springs; two daughters Mrs. Fred Mutchler of Burgoon and Mrs. Edwin Peake of Old Fort; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One child died in infancy. Mr. Long was the last of a family of 10. The body was taken to the Veh mortuary in Gibsonburg, where it will remain. Burial will be at the Smith cemetery near Burgoon, but other funeral arrangements were not completed.
