Services for Fred McIntosh, 90, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, in Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Centennial Chapel with the Rev. Dan Patman officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born July 16, 1918, in Clyde, Callahan County, Texas to Samuel Sidney McIntosh and Mary Myrtle Kegans McIntosh, he passed away July 30, 2008 in Georgetown, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and best friend and wife of 61 years, Chloe Maxine Barnett McIntosh.
He was a 1935 graduate of Clyde High School, President of Freshmen and Senior classes and attended McMurry University in Abilene. He was a self-taught Morse telegraph operator with the help of many friends in Clyde and Abilene. He began his business career with Postal Telegraph Company in Pecos, Texas and was transferred to Ardmore in 1938 where he met and married the love of his life, Maxine. After their marriage on June 5, 1940, he worked for Magnolia Pipeline Company in Teague, Texas and later with Gulf Refining Company in Wink, Crane and Houston.
He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Signal Instructor at the U.S.N. Air Technical Training Center in Norman. After the war, he went back to work for Gulf Refining and West Texas Gulf Refining Companies. With excellent communications skills, oil field experience and friendly personality, he rose quickly through the ranks of Gulf Refining to Director, Oil Movement and Crude Oil Inventory in Houston. After 36 years of service, he retired from Gulf Oil Corporation (now Chevron-Texaco) in 1978.
He was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. He first joined the First United Methodist Church in Clyde Texas, was a member of F.U.M.C. Ardmore, Terrace United Methodist Church, in Houston for 48 years and for the past six years a member of F.U.M.C. Georgetown, Texas.
He was a lifetime member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and traced his family history to the Stephen F. Austin colony known as the "Old 300" of Texas. He was a member of the Chevron Retirees Association.
Survivors include his son, John Fredric and wife, Jacqueline (Jackie) McIntosh, Lakeway; daughter, Monica Lee McIntosh McClung and husband, Doug, Georgetown; grandchildren, John D. McClung and wife, Krystal, Georgetown and Megan Lee McClung Tschoerner and husband, Craig, Jarrell; sisters-in-law, Jessica McClanahan and husband, Jack, Victoria and Nelda Drury and husband, Gene, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary bearers will be the Friendship Class of Terrace United Methodist Church; the Pathfinders Class of First United Methodist Church, Georgetown; Neighbors in the Village of River Bend, Georgetown; John and Charlene Wolfe, Katy, Texas; Dr. John and Judy Bailey, Horseshoe Bay; Mildred Woodruff, Houston; the Vaud Burton family, Ardmore; the Frank Bailey family, Abilene, Texas; Bernice Pyeatt, Ray Falk, Don Tabor, Dan South, and Howard Henson, Clyde, Texas.
