With excellent communications skills, oil field experience and friendly personality, he rose quickly through the ranks of Gulf Refining to Director, Oil Movement and Crude Oil Inventory in Houston. After 36 years of service, he retired from Gulf Oil Corporation (now Chevron-Texaco) in 1978.
