Mrs. J. S. Anderson Came Here 65 Years Ago
She Undoubtedly Was The Longest Continuous Resident Of This City And Always Took An Active Interest In All Community Affairs - Funeral Wednesday Morning At The Home.
__After an illness of some time, which she had borne with much fortitude, Mrs. Nancy Jane Anderson, widow of the late J. S. Anderson, passed away this morning at her home, 2008 Fifth avenue, Vernon Heights. The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. The services will be in charge of Rev. Dr. E. J. Lockwood, pastor of St. Paul's M. E. church and interment will be in Linwood cemetery.

__Mrs. Anderson perhaps was the longest continuous resident of Cedar Rapids, having come here sixty-five years ago when she was a child of 8 years. Her parents entered land from the government, taking up eighty acres in the vicinty of what is now the Bohemian cemetery. This land was purchased for a dollar and a quarter an acre. Mrs. Anderson had made her home on the west side until four years ago, when she moved into her new home in Vernon Heights. Always solicitous for the welfare of her friends and possessed of a kindly and genial nature, "Aunt Jennie," as Mrs. Anderson was familiarly called by her acquaintances, made many warm friends during her long residence in Cedar Rapids. She was essentially a home woman, but she took an active interest in civic affairs and attended meetings of the Woman's club and other literary organizations.
__Mrs. Anderson maiden name was Nancy Jane Frazee. She was married to J. S. Anderson in 1865, who passed away in February, 1905. Mrs. Anderson was born in Herkimer county, N. Y., December 9, 1840, and came to Cedar Rapids with her parents, Aaron and Nancy Clapsaddle Frazee, in 1848. They made the trip westward by way of the Erie canal and the Great Lakes to Chicago, and thence by team to this place.
__Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were the parents of three sons, Lew W., and Joseph R. of the firm of J. S. Anderson & Sons, and John B., claim agent for the Iowa Railway & Light company. Mrs. Anderson had two brothers and six sisters, all of whom had preceded her in death. She also had six grandchildren. Mary, Paul and Donald, children of Mr. and Mrs. Lew W. Anderson, and Burton, Helen and James, children of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Anderson. Joseph R. Anderson made his home with his mother.
__Mrs. Anderson was a devoted member of St. Paul's church and her life, was a beneficial influence in the moral development and social progess of the community.
