My grandmother (and Ros' sister) Violet decided that Rebecca was not American sounding enough, so she decided that Rebecca should be Roslyn. Her birth certificate was never changed.
I found out this story when Aunt Ros sent me a copy of her birth certificate, which also showed that she was born on Aug 18, not Aug 19 as she always said. Her response when I asked about it was 'I know when I was born - I was there'.
She married Irving 'Shavey' Philip Shavelson on Jun 2, 1946 in New York City, New York Co, New York. She died shortly after celebrating their 50 th anniversary with family and friends. Uncle Shavey said that she hung on so that she could do that. She died at home in Coconut Grove.
