CLARENCE BOLEN, 72, RETIRED POTLATCH CORP. WELDER

Clarence O. (Rick) Bolen, a retired Potlatch Corp. welder, died of a massive heart attack Sunday at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston. He was 72.



He was a 40-year resident of Clarkston and had started working at Potlatch Corp. in Lewiston in 1952.

He was born July 19, 1919, at Spalding, Idaho, to Louie J. and Maude Neal Bolen. He attended schools in Spalding and Lapwai and during World War II, he worked as a welder in an Oregon shipyard.

On July 3, 1940, he and Helen L. Santo were married at Lewiston. She survives at their Clarkston home.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Clarkston. When he lived in Lapwai, he played baseball and grew apples. He also enjoyed raising livestock, gardening and fishing. Survivors in addition to his wife include four daughters, Vickey Bolen, Karolyn Hough and Wanda Aiken, all of Clarkston, and Terri Bowden of Seattle; a son, Monte Bolen of Clarkston; three sisters, Florence Goucher and Katherine Gamet, both of Clarkston, and Jean Wood of Lewiston; two brothers, Arthur Bolen of Sweetwater and Gale Bolen of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and a brother died previously.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Merchant Funeral Home at Clarkston. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vineland Cemetery at Clarkston with the Rev. Jim Pennywell of the Clarkston Heights Baptist Church officiating.

The family suggests any memorials be contributions to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 2472, Spokane, Wash. 99210-2472.
