Menzo Leroy Adamson, a retired city of Clarkston employee, died Saturday at Clarkston Care Center of causes related to age. He was 97.
He was born Aug. 31, 1901, at Hoquiam, Wash., to Charles and Flora Harper Adamson. In 1903 the family moved to Pleasant Valley near Clearwater, Idaho.
Adamson worked on the family farm as well as other local farms before moving on to work in logging and road construction. He worked on several bridges in the Clearwater and Grangeville areas, as well as construction on the old Time Zone Bridge at Riggins.
He married Clara Payton on Oct. 17, 1922, at Asotin. They moved to Clarkston in 1936. She died on Sept. 13, 1982.
He was employed by Washington Water Power Co. for eight years, as well as Potlatch Forests Inc. and Clarkston Country Club. He also worked for the city of Clarkston for 17 years before retiring in 1967.
Adamson moved to Rosewood Care Center in July 1993, where he was under the care of his friend Frieda Biggs. He moved to Clarkston Care Center last month.
He enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching television, and visiting with his friends and family.
His survivors include three daughters, Loraine Emery of Boise and Gertrude Howell and Irene Pease, both of Clarkston; three sons, Eugene Adamson of Camano Island, Wash., and Dwight Adamson and Ronold Adamson, both of Clarkston; three sisters, Edna Smith and Hope Schlieper, both of Lewiston, and Geneva Kiele of Orofino; one brother, Bud Adamson of Southwick; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston.
